Fact Check: Were there empty seats in Delhi during PM's speech? Viral clip is misleading

Mostly false

The video showing empty seats was not recorded during PM Modi’s speech. An edited audio was inserted in the viral clip.

Did Delhi people ignore PM Modi’s rally before the elections? A viral video claims they did.

A 40-second video is spreading online, showing an empty ground with BJP flags. You can hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking in the background, saying in Hindi, “Even though it's a weekday, you all have come in large numbers to support us.”

Someone posted the video on X (formerly Twitter) and joked, “More people join our Twitter Space than this rally.” They also said that PM Modi is afraid to hold rallies in Delhi because of Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister.

But is this video real?

Khabar Fact Check looked into it and found the claim is misleading. The video was not taken during PM Modi’s speech. Instead, someone added his voice to a video of an empty ground.

Here’s what they found:

PM Modi made that speech at a rally in Yamuna Khadar, Kartar Nagar.

The full rally was live-streamed on his official YouTube channel on January 29.

At the 13-minute, 40-second mark, you can hear the same line from the viral video.

But unlike the viral clip, the full video shows a huge crowd was present.

Also, a big banner with Modi and BJP President JP Nadda was seen in the official video, but not in the viral one.

So what’s the truth?

The viral clip used edited audio.

A key line by Modi — “This crowd is showing what Delhi's mood is” — was removed.

That proves the viral video was not filmed during his actual speech.

While it’s unclear when the empty-ground video was really taken, it definitely wasn’t during the rally.
